What Constitutes A Dental Emergency?

When you are having a dental problem, surely your first call would be to your dentist. But if you deal with severe oral problems like bleeding or infections which can be life-threatening, then you are in need for an Emergency Dentist. Well, how can you consider whether your aches or pains are either normal, or a real toothache? Those seem small problems but can immediately turn into a greater oral trouble. Toothaches may come in shapes, sizes, and various degrees of pain. Proper diagnosis from expertise is the safest way to get quick toothache relief, and temporarily prevent you from getting into big issues. Here are some of the situations that you should consider a Dental Emergency.

Signs You Need Emergency Dental Care

1. Loose Tooth

If your teeth are starting to feel loose, there are little things that could be happening. It might indicate a tooth injury. This can be really painful for patients. Another sign can be localized infection. To understand what infection is occurring, visit your Emergency Dentist at Choice Family Dentistry in Rancho Cucamonga, CA  for your help.

2.  Severe Toothache

The severity of your toothache indicates that it’s time to get immediate relief. You should immediately visit your dentist, as there are numerous reasons behind a toothache. Hence, proper diagnosis is essential for toothache relief that lasts.

3.  Bleeding Gums

If you see gums bleeding while you floss, that isn’t ‘normal’. It can reveal signs of gum infection or gingivitis. However, if the bleeding is extreme, repeated, and results in gum ache – then you ought to pay extra attention to it. Moreover, if your gums swell or ache, your dentist will need to analyze what’s really going on.

4.  Swollen Jaw

Swelling of the jaw indicates a major sign of infection, one of which is salivary gland infection. If you are undergoing a swollen jaw, along with bad taste in your mouth, trouble in breathing or swallowing, and fever, then you should look for Dentist immediately.

5. Abscessed Tooth

A dental abscess is a pocket of pus in the tooth resulting in an infection that could spread to other surrounding tissues. This may cause fever, tooth sensitivity to hot and cold, a constant toothache, swelling in the face, and a pimple-like bump on your gums near the infected tooth. Emergency help is a must here!

6. Cracked or Fractured Teeth

This usually suggests that damage has happened to the inside of the tooth and also to the outside. Serious fractures are so excruciating that the tooth cannot be saved. Contact your dentist immediately for an emergency appointment!

7. Mouth Tastes Like Metal

This actually signifies that one of the old fillings in your mouth has cracked or loosened. Seeking for emergency dental care in this situation is advisable, as an open filling could highly lead to further infections and cavities or worse and may even require a root canal therapy.

Avoiding Emergencies!

Take proper care of your teeth and gums daily and have regular check-ups. With proper dental care also visit the dentist on time to avoid any kind of dental emergency. A customized treatment plan can be drafted to address any problems before they turn into an emergency.

Let Your Teeth Shine Like Pearls After Teeth Whitening Treatment!

Do you fancy your teeth to shine like pearls? Well, we all want that! Most people opt for Teeth Whitening treatments to get a whiter smile — either professionally or in the comfort of their own homes. The treatment itself is vital to get the desired result, but how well you preserve it afterwards is equally crucial to keep your teeth bright and white. Here are a few tips to help maintain your pearly whites!

Teeth Whitening Aftercare:

  • Avoid Staining Foods

48 hours after the treatment is crucial. So you ought to be more aware of your food intake as there are few kinds of food that are known enemies of tooth whitening for their potent staining powers. This include: tea and coffee, dark coloured sauces especially red pasta sauce, soy sauce, barbecue sauce, fruit juice, berries, red and white wine, dark chocolate (as this contains caffeine), acidic food like lemons, oranges, and other citrus fruits or sour foods which can weaken your enamel.

  •  Eat Foods that Protect Your Teeth

So what’s safe to eat after this orthodontic treatment? The answer is, crunchy fruits and vegetables that are filled with water, such as celery and apples, white meat, cheese (helps increase saliva production, and has calcium and phosphorus which keep your tooth enamel tough and resilient to decay and stains), colourless beverages, non-acidic fruits.

  • Follow Proper Oral Hygiene Practice

For the best results:

    • Brush your teeth twice daily. Brushing your teeth after every meal will help extend the life of your professional whitening. And don’t skip flossing to remove any plaque. Proper flossing means getting in between each and every tooth, scraping the sides, and also slightly under the gum.
    • Rinse your mouth properly with an antiseptic mouthwash at least once daily.
    • Use whitening toothpaste at least once or twice a week to remove surface stains and prevent yellowing.
    • Don’t smoke! As smoking not only stains your teeth but also increases your risk of gum infections, gum disease, plaque, and even oral cancer.
  • Consider Touch-Up Treatments

You may go for touch-up treatments every six months or so and even in the case of professional treatment.  At home you can use whitening toothpaste, gels, touch-up pens and strips too! A touch-up will bring back that natural shine to your smile.

  • Visit Your Dentist Regularly

Perhaps one of the effective ways to deal with teeth whitening aftercare is regularly visiting your dentist for a cleaning and check-up at least once a year.

What Is The Average Cost Of Dental Implants?

Our teeth are the protective barrier that helps in preventing bone loss from the jaws. In the case of missing teeth, the jaw starts deteriorating slowly with time, which leads to pain and discomfort. Besides, bone loss from the jaws also makes an individual more susceptible to tooth decay, gum diseases, oral infections, etc. Tooth loss or missing teeth can even lead to difficulty in chewing, which causes poor digestion. Thus, dental implants are the perfect solution to the problems because of missing teeth.

Dental implants offer a strong foundation for mending the defects in your natural teeth, and, therefore, implants are also called replacement teeth. Dentists suggest getting dental implants to people to restore natural teeth and prevent pain and irritation while chewing food.

How to determine the average cost of dental implants?

The base cost of a dental implant only includes the implant procedure cost. The main variables that influence the base cost are as follows:

    • Dentist’s Experience: The more experienced a dental practitioner is, the higher fees his or her fees would be. But, consulting a qualified dentist will minimize the procedure risk.
    • Materials Used: Implants can be made from different materials, mostly either zirconium or titanium. Both materials have different prices, which will have an impact on the price.
    • Preparation Processes: Bone grafting or tooth extractions are might be needed before the dentist can fix the implant. Thus, it all depends on the overall health of your jawbone and teeth. The more procedures that you need, the higher will be your total the implant cost.
    • Number of Implants: Your total increases if the number of dental implants that you need is more.
    • Geographical Location: The implants cost varies based on the dental clinic’s location. Implants are cheaper in some other countries; but even within the U.S., the cost differs from region to region because of higher rent and other expenses of commercial properties in certain areas.

How much do dental implants cost on average?

Because dental implants are customized based on your specific number of missing teeth, they come under the umbrella of being an expensive dental product. This, in turn, is a key factor that determines the dental implants cost. The cost for a single dental implant in Rancho Cucamonga, CA, range from $3,000 to $4,500 or more. You might incur some additional costs for CT scans, surgical guides, bone grafts, tooth extractions, X-rays, barrier membranes, etc.

Invisalign – The Choice for a Straighter Smile in Adult Years

One of the times people look most beautiful is when they’re donning a beautifully bright and wide smile. When a person is smiling, it quickly and easily puts other people at ease. It’s also a great way to attract positive energy. One reason people don’t have their smile readily available is because they’re embarrassed about their crooked teeth. If you fall into this category, Invisalign in Rancho Cucamonga, CAis a great option to strongly consider.

Here are the best parts about Invisalign treatment:

#1 Comfortable Treatment Option

Braces are known for their painful installation and upkeep. Lots of wire metals come together with small rubber bands to squeeze your teeth into a better position. Occasionally, you must go in and make an appointment with your orthodontist to get your rubber bands tightened. This process isn’t comfortable either. Many people keep their braces on for years.

If you can’t imagine years of dealing with the inconvenience of braces, it’s a wise idea to try Invisalign. Thankfully, the aligners that come with Invisalign are virtually painless. They may be a little awkward at first because it’s a foreign object in your mouth. Over time, your mouth will get used to them and you’ll forget that they’re even there.

#2 Great Aesthetics

One of the reasons many people don’t like to get braces is because they’re not the loveliest to look at. In grade school, children love the idea of picking out different colors for their rubber bands. However, neon yellow and bright orange aren’t as appealing to a 20-year old compared to an eight-year-old. If you’d prefer a sophisticated and discreet look, Invisalign is great because no one can see it. It’s completely clear and can be taken off at any time.

#3 Greater Freedom with Easy Maintenance

The Invisalign aligners can be taken off when you are eating or drinking. It gives you greater freedom to chew easily. To maintain these aligners, you just need to keep a few things in mind:

  • Remove your aligners when you eat
  • Always store your aligners in their case and never wrap them up casually
  • You can drink with the aligners. However, if you are drinking staining beverages, use a straw to keep the aligners invisible.
  • After your meals, rinse and brush your teeth before re-inserting the aligners.

Because of the comfort and visual appeal of Invisalign, countless amounts of people are experiencing their best smile ever. If you’d like to stop complaining about your smile and do something about it, give Invisalign a try. It’s discreet, comfortable and effective. You can remove it when you’re eating your favorite foods too. Overall, it’s a win-win situation. You can’t lose!

What is Included in a Complete Smile Makeover?

A smile makeover changes your smile completely by fixing all minor and major problems. As such, there are several cosmetic dental procedures involved in a smile makeover Rancho Cucamonga, CA. A dentist for smile makeover near you will correct any gaps, any differences in tooth shape or sizes and also create the perfect smile line for you. Here are some of the common procedures involved in a smile transformation:

  1. Restoring Missing Teeth:

Missing teeth or gaps between your teeth can take away the beauty of your smile. Gaps are also an oral hazard. The empty space can cause the surrounding teeth to shift. It also makes the surrounding teeth more prone to decay. To give you an even smile, your dentist will suggest restorations such as dental implants or bridges to restore your missing teeth. These restorative options are mostly tooth-colored to give your smile a natural look.

  1. Whitening Stained or Discolored Teeth:

The clarity and color of your teeth will affect the appearance of your smile. Discolored and stained teeth can make your smile look less appealing. If your teeth have become stained or discolored overtime due to staining beverages and foods, you can restore a white smile with professional teeth whitening treatment. However, if your teeth are severely discolored, your dentist may suggest veneers to cover up the discolored tooth.

  1. Creating a Straight Smile:

A straight smile is directly considered to be a beautiful one. While most people wish to have a straight smile, very few are born with a naturally-straight smile. If your teeth are misaligned or crooked, you may need to undergo orthodontic treatment such as braces or Invisalign. This will straighten your teeth and give you the perfect smile. However, if you have just a few crooked or overlapping teeth; it can be improved with cosmetic treatment like veneers.

  1. Evenly Shaped and Sized Teeth:

For the perfect smile, you teeth should be even. Many times, some teeth have slightly different shape and length. If some teeth are shorter than the others, they can be lengthened using veneers or bonding. Gum reduction can also be used to shorten or lengthen teeth. Similarly, veneers and bonding can ensure that all teeth are evenly shaped.

With a combination of these procedures, a dentist can help you achieve the smile you desire. Here at Choice Family Dentistry, we are dedicated to giving you a flaunt-worthy smile with a complete smile makeover in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. Contact us today!

5 Amazing Benefits of Dental Implants

Dentures have long been thought of as the treatment of choice to replace missing teeth. Nevertheless, dental implants are the new gold standard today. While dentures rest on the gums and are susceptible to slipping and pinching, dental implants replace the roots of the tooth. This prevents loss of jawbone and provides a healthy , safe base for high quality replacement teeth. Here are the top 5 advantages of dental implants.

Costs over the long term

It is true that dentures cost less on the front but dental implants are much less costly over a lifetime. Every year, dentures must be relinquished and usually replaced in just 5 to 10 years. The dental implants can last with proper care for the rest of your life. If you are concerned about the initial investment, your existing removable upper or lower denture can be stabilized by just 2 to 4 implants

Natural aesthetics

Though the high-end dentures of today are highly aesthetic, they tend to shift when you laugh, chew or talk. A partial denture has a metal brace or specific attachments that can be noticeable, whereas a full upper denture has hard plastic covering the mouth roof. These limitations are eliminated by dental implants which make them a more esthetic option.

Stable restoration

As they tend to slip, rub, and pinch the gums, dentures can be quite uncomfortable. Eating hard, crunchy, or chewy foods can make those problems worse. Since dental implants fuse with jawbone, the replacement teeth are stabilized, eliminating these problems.

Stronger bite force

Just about 25 per cent of natural bite strength is replaced by dentures, making it difficult or impossible to enjoy foods such as steak and corn on the cob. Dental implants restore more than 90 percent of bite force , making even these difficult foods easy to eat.

Oral Health

Once teeth are lost, a normal cycle of resorbing the gum tissue and jawbone starts in the body. This can lead to wrinkles, premature aging, and a sunken, hollow appearance over time. Even the best-made dentures will start to feel loose from this resorption.

Additionally, dentures can cause chronic sores and mouth inflammation as a result of their continuous movement. It is not only unpleasant but it can also increase the risk of gum disease. Dental implants replace the tooth roots by stabilizing the new teeth, remedying these conditions.

When you decide on getting dental implants, it’s important that you choose the best dentist near you since you’ll be having these for the rest of your life. For that purpose, you can get the best implant dentist in Rancho Cucamonga CA.

Overview and Alternative Treatment Options for Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea is a condition in which air when you are sleeping, is not going through your respiratory system properly. As a consequence when you’re sleeping you don’t breathe well. Therefore, you can gasp in your sleep for air and wake up exhausted, or with a dry mouth.

When you snore too much, wake up tired with a dry mouth, have a tendency to be too sleepy during the day, or have interrupted sleep, you may have sleep apnea.

Sleep apnea may cause mental health problems, lead to poor immune function, contribute to memory loss, and may even increase your risk of heart failure, as per a Healthline report.

The most popular conventional treatments for sleep apnea are CPAP therapy and in some cases even surgeries.

If you learn about CPAP therapy, you’d know that perhaps not everyone can handle the procedure. This is why some might want alternatives to sleeping apnea. A list of five alternative sleep apnea treatment options is listed below:

Sleep apnea alternate treatment options

  1. For those patients who can not handle CPAP treatment, an oral appliance is the best alternative medication among sleep apnea. It works by holding the tongue in place and in the process, opening the airway.
  2. Proper exercises will help you breathe better. Practice a few exercises on breathing. Because sleep apnea involves a lack of oxygen in the body when it is asleep, increasing energy levels by proper exercise increase oxygen intake and decrease sleep apnea. Exercising yoga is highly recommended. Yoga is associated with better respiration, increased energy and a healthy heart.
  3. Sleep apnea can be minimized if you don’t have any heavy meals or caffeine within a few hours of bedtime, and even maintain consistent sleep times. Think about giving up on smoking and drinking, too. They’re notorious for inflaming and swelling the airways.
  4. Keeping a healthy weight is highly effective in reducing sleep apnea. To be overweight ensures you have short pathways through the skin. This in effect blocks the airflow and causes you to snore or gasp for air. Holding a healthy weight holds the airway fully open and makes ventilation smoother.
  5. Use humidifiers to some degree to get rid of your sleep apnea. That is because the moist air makes breathing easier. Humidifiers are devices that add moisture to the air. The body and respiratory system may get irritated by dry air. The use of a moisturizer may expand your airways, reduce congestion and promote better breathing. Consider adding lavender, peppermint, or eucalyptus oil to a moisturizer for added benefit. These three essential oils know of anti-inflammatory and calming advantages.

If nothing works, however, your only therapy might be a snore therapy. Thankfully, you can avail that. Get the best snore therapy in Rancho Cucamonga near you by clicking here!

The Missing Tooth Scenario

It’s the weekend, and you and your friends decide to go out and have a couple drinks. Then, like always, a couple drinks turn to a couple more and maybe you are having a blast and that is fine. But then the next morning you wake up and you feel that your mouth is sore. You feel a weird gap in your mouth, a gap where your tooth should be! So you pull the covers off of you and panic, you rush while stumbling to the bathroom, all the while you are still touching the gap in your mouth with your tongue. Then you reach the bathroom mirror and immediately smile and open your mouth and realize…. A MISSING TOOTH!!

You panic and try and remember how this happened… even if you remember or don’t remember, it’s not like you can super glue your tooth back to the exact spot. So now you immediately remember your dentist and give them a call, text them, email them, you try every means of communication to reach your dentist….. because this is literally an emergency!

You get a hold of your dentist and they understand completely your situation and recommend you come in immediately. You rush to the dental practice and the dentist and his team take x-rays and see what can be done. Your wonderful dentist comes into the room after x-rays and seeing all possible ways to save your smile and they recommend: DENTAL IMPLANTS.

You think to yourself… “I’ve heard of dental implants… but is there any other option?” Then your dentist says “there are other options like a partial denture or a bridge, but a dental implant would be best.” Now you are thinking not just about your missing tooth but the price to replace this missing tooth.

OPTIONS

Which option is truly best for your missing tooth? Let’s take a look at the pros and cons for these three options.

Pros
Partial Dentures:

  • Replacing your missing tooth
  • Cost is lower than other options
  • Removable (could also be a negative)

Bridges:

  • Replacing missing tooth
  • Non-Removable
  • Covers gaps and spaces in teeth
  • Straightens crooked teeth

Dental Implants:

  • Replacing missing tooth
  • Preserves Natural Teeth
  • Provides a much more natural & superior appearance
  • Can NOT get a cavity on an implant!
  • Protects long term oral health.
  • Permanent Fixture
  • Able to chew on an apple (or any hard foods) again!

Let’s take a look at the cons of these three options:

Cons
Partial Dentures:

  • Very Uncomfortable
  • Visible (other people can see them)
  • They hang on to your other teeth
  • Sore Teeth and Gums
  • Bulky Acrylic on Your Palate and Gums
  • Re-alignments and adjustments are needed every 4-6months

Bridges:

  • You have to cut natural tooth structure of the adjacent teeth (the teeth next to the missing tooth) in order for it to fit.
  • An average lifespan is between 7 to 10 years.
  • Relies on other teeth for support of the bridge

Dental Implants:

  • It takes time for the implant to fuse with the jawbone, so it is not a fast fix but it is a permanent one.

CONCLUSION

So, what is the best option for your missing tooth? You can decide for yourself, but as for me, I love to eat apples and want a permanent fix. I do NOT want to have to keep going back to the dentist every year (on top of my yearly cleanings) to fix my partial denture, or bridge. I do NOT want to have to shave my other natural teeth in order to fix one missing tooth. If I do that then that means I would have to permanently adjust my whole natural smile to have a bridge fit, and once you shave your natural teeth you can NOT un-shave it!

I will go with DENTAL IMPLANTS for sure! It’s permanent. It preserves my other natural teeth. I do NOT have to worry about cavities on that tooth. And I can eat whatever I want!

Now you be the judge, put your-self in this scenario and which option would you choose, or maybe you are looking to replace a missing tooth and this scenario happened to you literally over the weekend, what option will you choose?
